YAG Laser

YAG capsulotomy is a laser procedure used when vision becomes cloudy months or years after cataract surgery due to posterior capsule opacification, sometimes called a “secondary cataract” though it isn't actually a second cataract as the lens cannot grow back once removed. The goal of YAG capsulotomy is to restore clear vision by opening the cloudy membrane behind the intraocular lens. During the procedure, a YAG laser is used to create a small opening in the capsule, allowing light to pass through normally again. It is a quick, in-office treatment with immediate visual improvement in most patients and minimal recovery time.

Laser iridotomy is performed when a patient has narrow or closed angles, or is at risk for angle-closure glaucoma. The goal is to prevent or relieve blockage of fluid flow within the eye that can cause sudden, dangerous pressure spikes. Using a laser, a tiny opening is created in the peripheral iris, providing an alternate pathway for fluid to move from the back of the eye to the front. This is also an outpatient procedure, typically done in minutes, and is highly effective at reducing the risk of acute angle-closure events.
